Dev Diary: Why 3mpwrApp Will Always Be Free

A behind-the-scenes look at how we build 3mpwrApp. — You cannot build a disability justice app and charge for access. The people who need 3mpwrApp most are often the ones least able to pay for it a injured workers waiting on a claim, people with severe disability on fixed income, people in systems that have repeatedly failed them. We had that conversation early and directly: no subscription, no premium tier, no advertising. The funding model for 3mpwrApp is grants, advocacy partnerships, and community contributions a not extracting value from users. The “always free” commitment is structural. It is in our founding documents. It is not a marketing promise that changes with new leadership or investor pressure. It is a hard constraint on how we operate. —

Technical Details

  • Monetizing disability data would be a direct betrayal of the community we serve
  • Paywalling critical features creates a two-tiered system of access to justice
  • Sustainable through grants and advocacy partnerships a not user fees or advertising
  • No advertising model a we will never sell exposure to our community’s vulnerabilities
  • The “always free” commitment is structural, not just a policy promise

    In Practice

  • Every feature including Evidence Locker, Letter Generator, and crisis resources is always free
  • No “premium tier” that gates the most important tools behind a paywall
  • No advertising of any kind a no targeting, no impressions, no data sold

    What We Learned

  • People with disabilities are disproportionately in financial precarity a a paid app systematically excludes them
  • If access to advocacy tools depends on money, justice is not equal
  • Almost every sector monetizes disability data through insurance, advertising, and research a we will not

    Follow Our Development

We believe in building in public a the community we serve has been failed by opaque institutions too many times.
